DPF Cleaning in Park Royal
Restore a blocked Diesel Particulate Filter.

You get the filter emptied of soot and ash, the reason it blocked identified, and the car out of limp mode with its power and economy back. This is diesel-only work. We read soot loading and regeneration history from the engine control unit before touching the filter, because a DPF that blocked once will block again if the cause is left.
What is DPF cleaning?
A diesel particulate filter is a ceramic honeycomb in the exhaust with alternately plugged channels, so gas is forced through porous walls and soot is trapped on them. It is designed to empty itself. Passive regeneration burns soot off whenever exhaust gas is hot enough on a sustained run; active regeneration is the engine control unit injecting extra fuel late in the cycle to raise temperature deliberately, which it decides using differential pressure across the filter and exhaust temperature sensors. Soot burns away, but incombustible ash from engine oil additives does not, so it accumulates permanently over the filter's life. Cleaning addresses both, and the upstream causes matter as much as the filter: a leaking injector, a failed EGR valve, a stuck thermostat or a faulty pressure sensor will all keep regeneration from completing.
How we carry out DPF cleaning
We plug in first and read the stored soot mass, the ash figure, the differential pressure reading and how many regeneration attempts the engine control unit has started and abandoned. That history usually names the culprit. We check the EGR valve, the pressure and temperature sensors and their pipework for blockage or a split, and confirm the engine is producing normal amounts of soot in the first place. Where the filter is cleanable we clean and then run a forced regeneration on the vehicle, monitoring exhaust temperature and back-pressure as it burns through. Afterwards we confirm pressure has returned to normal, reset the adaptation values so the ECU starts from a true baseline, and go through the driving pattern that keeps it clear.
Signs you need DPF cleaning
- DPF warning light showing on the dashboard
- Car drops into limp mode under load
- Regeneration starting then aborting on short journeys
- Oil level rising above the dipstick maximum
- Radiator fan running hard after switching off
- Hot, acrid smell after a longer run
What you get from DPF cleaning
- Soot loading and regeneration history read first
- Upstream sensor and EGR causes identified
- Forced regeneration monitored on back-pressure readings
- Filter cleaned rather than replaced where possible
- Driving routine set to prevent re-blocking
DPF cleaning and West London driving
This is the local fault. A diesel van working the Park Royal industrial estate does two minute hops between units on and around Abbey Road, gate to gate, engine never properly warm. A DPF needs sustained exhaust heat to burn its soot, and a round like that starts regeneration and kills it, over and over, until the filter chokes and the van limps. The same applies to diesels doing school runs off Harrow Road or short errands that stop before Scrubs Lane. Crawling on the A406 North Circular or through Hanger Lane does not help either: queueing is distance without the heat.
Why choose Park Royal Tyre & Alignment Centre for DPF cleaning
Park Royal Tyre and Alignment Centre is RAC Approved and AA Approved, and DPF work is a diesel speciality we see constantly because of where we are. The skill is not the cleaning, it is refusing to clean a filter without first finding why it filled: a sticking EGR valve, a leaking injector, a thermostat that never lets the engine warm properly, or simply a duty cycle no filter could survive. We tell van owners and diesel drivers the truth about which of those they have.

Do I need to book an appointment for DPF cleaning?
Booking DPF cleaning ahead is best, so the time is set aside for your car when you arrive: call 020 3886 2355, WhatsApp 07476 586 589 or book online. Walk-ins are welcome too at Unit 4 Unimix House, Abbey Road, Park Royal, London, NW10 7TR, and we'll do our best to fit urgent jobs in the same day.
Are you an approved garage?
Yes. We display RAC Approved Garage and AA Approved Garage status, and 379 Google reviews rate the workshop 4.7 out of 5. It is worth asking on DPF work particularly, because the trade has a shortcut, cutting the filter out and coding the light away, which is not legal for a vehicle used on the road. We do not do it. We clean, regenerate and fix the cause so the filter stays in place and working.
Which areas do you cover for DPF cleaning?
Diesel drivers and van operators bring us DPF work from right across the Park Royal estate, plus Harlesden, Willesden, Acton, Alperton, Wembley, Greenford and Ealing. Being on Abbey Road in the middle of the estate makes drop-off between drops straightforward, and there is parking on site. If the vehicle is in limp mode, phone 020 3886 2355 or WhatsApp 07476 586 589 and we will talk through bringing it in.
