Reading your tyre size and ratings
Every car tyre carries a code on the sidewall, for example 205/55 R16 91V. The 205 is the width in millimetres, 55 is the sidewall height as a percentage of that width, R16 is the wheel diameter in inches, 91 is the load index and V is the speed rating. It is essential to fit the correct size and ratings for your vehicle, and we always confirm them against your registration before we fit.
Understanding the EU tyre label
Since the label was updated, every new tyre we sell shows three graded measures. Fuel efficiency (rolling resistance) is rated A to E and affects economy. Wet grip is rated A to E and reflects wet braking distance, the single most important safety measure. External noise is shown in decibels with a wave rating. On damp UK roads we always steer drivers towards a strong wet-grip grade.
Premium, mid-range or budget
- Premium (Michelin, Continental, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Goodyear) for the lowest cost per mile and best safety margins
- Mid-range (Hankook, Avon, Kumho, Nexen) for a strong balance of quality and price
- Budget (Nankang, Accelera, Linglong) for the lowest up-front cost on second cars and short-term needs
- We help you match the tier to your mileage, driving and budget
Fitted properly, first time
Every tyre we fit is professionally mounted, precisely balanced and finished with a new valve, and we dispose of your old tyre for you. We can also check your wheel alignment, since a knock from a kerb or pothole can wear a new tyre quickly if the tracking is out.
Send your registration to 020 3886 2355 or WhatsApp 07476 586 589 and we will quote the best-value car tyre for your vehicle, fitted the same day in most cases.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know what size car tyre I need?
Check the code on your tyre sidewall, for example 205/55 R16, or look in your handbook or on the inside of the fuel filler flap. Unsure? Send us your registration and we will confirm the correct size and ratings.
What does the EU tyre label tell me?
It grades fuel efficiency and wet grip from A to E and shows external noise in decibels. Wet grip is the key safety measure, especially on damp UK roads, so we recommend a strong wet-grip grade.
Should I buy premium or budget car tyres?
It depends on your mileage and budget. Premium tyres usually last longer and stop shorter, giving a lower cost per mile, while budget tyres cut the up-front cost. We will talk you through the trade-off for your car.
Is fitting and balancing included in the price?
Yes. Our prices are fully fitted, which includes professional fitting, precise wheel balancing, a new valve and disposal of your old tyre.
