Match the load index, not just the size
On a Cupra, two cars with the same tyre size can need different load ratings. Fitment data lists the Formentor's 245/45 R18 at both 100V and 96W on the 1.5 e-Hybrid 204, but only at 96W on the 1.5 TSI 150. The Terramar's sizes are listed at load indices of 100 to 101.
Published load and speed ratings can differ slightly from those on the car's own tyre label. So when you book, give us the full marking from your current tyres, for example 245/45 R18 100V, not just the size. We will match it or tell you if it does not suit your car.
Born and Tavascan: electric Cupra tyres
The Born is a rear-wheel-drive electric hatchback built on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform, the same platform as the VW ID.3. It is listed on 215/55 R18, 215/50 R19, 215/45 R20 and 235/40 R20. Most of the 215-section sizes are listed at a T speed rating, while the 235/40 R20 is listed at 96Y.
The Tavascan is also built on the MEB platform. On 19-inch wheels it runs a staggered set: 235/55 R19 on the front and wider 255/50 R19 on the rear. Because the sizes differ, the 19-inch tyres cannot be swapped between axles, and replacements are bought per axle. The 20 and 21-inch options are listed as 255/45 R20 and 255/40 R21. Give us both front and rear sizes when you book.
Is my Leon Cupra a SEAT or a Cupra?
Cupra became a brand of its own in 2018. Before that, Cupra was the performance version of the SEAT Leon, so a 2014 to 2020 Leon Cupra is a SEAT and tyre databases list it under SEAT. That generation, including the SC three-door, the ST estate and the Cupra R, is listed on 205/50 R17 up to 235/35 R19.
The current Leon, sold as a Cupra since 2020, is listed on 205/55 R16 up to 235/35 R19. Both generations have two different 19-inch sizes, 225/35 R19 and 235/35 R19, so read the size from the sidewall rather than going by the wheel diameter alone.
Wheel alignment on a Cupra
Many Cupras run wide, low-profile tyres, such as 235/35 R19 on the Leon, 255/35 R20 on the Formentor VZ5 or 255/40 R21 on the Tavascan. These cost more to replace, so check the wheels are pointing the right way before new ones go on. If one edge of a tyre is wearing faster than the rest, or the steering pulls or sits off-centre, have the alignment checked before or when you fit new tyres. Otherwise the new ones will wear the same way. We use Hunter equipment for four-wheel alignment, from £50.
