Land Rover Tyres in Park Royal

The right tyre size for a Land Rover depends on the model, the generation and the wheels fitted. Sizes run from 215/75 R16 on some Freelander 2s to 285/40 R23 on the current Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, and a Defender from 2020 on 20-inch wheels takes 255/60 R20. Land Rover tyre sizes by model

Sizes for 13 Land Rover models and generations, cross-checked against tyre-maker and retailer fitment listings. One model often lists several sizes, one per wheel option. Fitment listings are a guide: the size on your own tyres, or on the placard in the door frame, is the one to match.

Land Rover models at a glance

• Range Rover Evoque L538: The first-generation Evoque (2011 to 2019), including the 3-door coupe, uses 225/65 R17, 235/60 R18, 235/55 R19 or 245/45 R20.
• Range Rover Evoque L551: The Evoque from 2019 uses 235/60 R18, 235/55 R19, 235/50 R20 or 245/45 R21, and 225/65 R17 or 235/65 R17 on versions other than the plug-in hybrid.
• Discovery Sport L550: The 2014 to 2019 Discovery Sport uses 225/65 R17 or 235/65 R17, 235/60 R18, 235/55 R19 or 245/45 R20.
• Discovery Sport L550 facelift: The Discovery Sport from 2019 uses 235/60 R18 to 245/45 R21, including on the P300e plug-in hybrid, and 17-inch sizes are listed only for some non-plug-in versions.
• Discovery L319: The Discovery 4 (2009 to 2016) uses 255/60 R18 on the 3.0 diesels, and 255/55 R19 or 255/50 R20 on all engines.
• Discovery L462: The Discovery 5 from 2017 uses 255/60 R19, 255/55 R20, 275/45 R21 or 285/40 R22, and pre-2021 versions also list 235/65 R19 and 235/60 R20.
• Defender L663: The Defender from 2020 uses 255/70 R18, 255/65 R19, 255/60 R20 or 275/45 R22, and the V8 is listed on 20 and 22-inch sizes only.
• Freelander L359: The Freelander 2 (2006 to 2014) uses 235/65 R17, 235/60 R18 or 235/55 R19, and 215/75 R16 on some 2.2 diesels.
• Range Rover L405: The 2012 to 2021 Range Rover uses 235/65 R19 on six-cylinder versions, and 255/55 R20, 275/45 R21 or 275/40 R22 on larger wheels.
• Range Rover L460: The Range Rover from 2022 uses 255/60 R20, 275/55 R20, 275/50 R21, 285/45 R22 or 285/40 R23.
• Range Rover Sport L494: The 2013 to 2022 Range Rover Sport uses 235/65 R19 to 275/40 R22, and the SVR is listed on 22-inch sizes including 285/40 R22 and 295/40 R22.
• Range Rover Sport L461: The Range Rover Sport from 2022 shares the current Range Rover's sizes: 255/60 R20, 275/55 R20, 275/50 R21, 285/45 R22 or 285/40 R23.
• Range Rover Velar L560: The Velar from 2017 uses 235/65 R18, 255/55 R19, 255/50 R20, 265/45 R21 or 265/40 R22.

LR and JLR markings, and extra-load tyres

Tyres developed with Land Rover as original equipment carry an LR mark on the sidewall. JLR marks a tyre approved for both Jaguar and Land Rover, and J marks a Jaguar fitment. Land Rover UK's own tyre list shows these marks in the pattern names, for example Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure LR and Michelin Latitude Tour HP LR on the Defender, and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric SUV JLR on the Discovery Sport and Evoque.

Many Land Rover sizes are extra-load (XL) tyres with a high load index, such as 255/70 R18 116H on the Defender, 255/60 R19 113V on the Discovery 5 and 275/55 R20 117W on the current Range Rover. When you book, give us the full marking from the sidewall, including the load index and speed rating, and mention any LR or JLR mark, so we quote a tyre with the same ratings.

Sizes shared across the Land Rover range

Several Land Rover models use the same sizes. The Discovery Sport and the second-generation Evoque (2019 onwards) share many, and Land Rover lists some original-equipment tyres for both, such as 235/65 R17 108V, 235/60 R18 107V and 235/50 R20 104Y. The current Range Rover (L460) and Range Rover Sport (L461) also share their sizes, from 255/60 R20 up to 285/40 R23. The previous Range Rover and Range Rover Sport go up to 22-inch wheels.

Plug-in hybrid versions do not always offer every wheel size. On the Discovery Sport from 2019, the 17-inch sizes are not listed for the P300e, so always go by the size on your current tyres rather than the model name alone.

Wheel alignment on a Land Rover

Land Rover tyres are large and often extra-load, such as 275/45 R22 on a Defender or 285/40 R23 on a Range Rover, so they are costly to replace early. If one edge of a tyre is wearing faster than the rest, or the steering pulls or sits off-centre, new tyres will wear the same way until the alignment is corrected. We use Hunter equipment for four-wheel alignment, from £50, and it is worth checking when you fit new tyres.
