Mercedes-Benz Tyres in Park Royal

The right tyre size for a Mercedes-Benz depends on the model, the generation and the wheels fitted, and on many C-Class, E-Class and GLC cars the rear tyres are wider than the fronts. A W213 E-Class on 19-inch wheels, for example, runs 245/40 R19 at the front and 275/35 R19 at the rear. Sizes for 13 Mercedes-Benz models and generations, cross-checked against tyre-maker and retailer fitment listings. One model often lists several sizes, one per wheel option. Fitment listings are a guide: the size on your own tyres, or on the placard in the door frame, is the one to match.

Mercedes-Benz models at a glance

• A-Class W176: The 2012 to 2018 A-Class ranges from 195/65 R15 on entry versions such as the A 160 and A 180 to 235/40 R18 on the A 250.
• A-Class W177: The 2018 to 2022 A-Class uses 205/60 R16, 205/55 R17, 225/45 R18 or 225/40 R19; the AMG A 35 and A 45 use different sizes.
• C-Class W205: The 2014 to 2021 C-Class ranges from 195/65 R16 to 225/45 R18, with staggered sets up to 225/40 R19 front and 245/35 R19 or 255/35 R19 rear.
• C-Class W206: The C-Class from 2021 uses 195/60 R17 to 225/45 R18, with staggered sets of 225/45 R18 and 245/40 R18, or 225/40 R19 and 255/35 R19.
• CLA C117: The 2013 to 2019 CLA uses 195/65 R15 to 225/45 R17, and the 18-inch option is either 225/40 R18 all round or staggered with 245/35 R18 rears.
• CLA C118: The 2019 to 2023 CLA uses 205/60 R16, 205/55 R17, 225/45 R18 or 225/40 R19.
• E-Class W213: The 2016 to 2023 E-Class uses 205/65 R16, 225/55 R17 or 245/45 R18, with staggered sets up to 245/35 R20 front and 275/30 R20 rear.
• GLA X156: The 2014 to 2020 GLA uses 215/60 R17, 215/55 R18, 235/50 R18 or 235/45 R19.
• GLA H247: The GLA from 2020 uses 215/65 R17, 235/55 R18, 235/50 R19 or 235/45 R20.
• GLC X253: The 2015 to 2022 GLC uses 235/65 R17 to 255/45 R20, and some 19 and 20-inch options are staggered with 255/50 R19 or 285/40 R20 rears.
• GLC X254: The GLC from 2022 uses 235/60 R18, 235/55 R19 or 255/45 R20, all round or with wider staggered rears up to 285/40 R20.
• Sprinter W907: Rear-wheel-drive Sprinters from 2018 use 205/75 R16, 225/75 R16, 235/65 R16 or 235/60 R17, with commercial load indices to match.
• Vito W447: The Vito and Vito Tourer from 2014 use 195/65 R16 to 245/45 R18, with 245/45 R19 listed for Tourer versions.

Staggered sizes: front and rear tyres are not the same

Many rear-wheel-drive Mercedes-Benz models, including the C-Class and E-Class, and the current X254 GLC, use staggered sizes on their larger wheels, with a wider tyre on the rear axle. A W206 C-Class on 19-inch staggered wheels, for example, runs 225/40 R19 at the front and 255/35 R19 at the rear. Because the sizes differ, these tyres cannot be swapped from front to rear to even out wear.

Some wheel sizes come both ways: a W205 C-Class on 18-inch wheels can have 225/45 R18 on all four corners, or 225/45 R18 fronts with 245/40 R18 rears. When you book, read the size from a front tyre and a rear tyre, and if you only replace one axle, tell us which one.

MO, MOE and MO1: Mercedes-Benz sidewall markings

Tyres made for Mercedes-Benz as original equipment carry an MO mark on the sidewall. MOE (Mercedes Original Extended) marks an extended-mobility, or run-flat, version, and MO1 marks tyres made for Mercedes-AMG models. Look next to the size on your current tyres for these letters.

If your car has MOE run-flat tyres, tell us when you book. We supply run-flat tyres, and we will quote for the same type so the car keeps the tyres it was set up for.

Vito and Sprinter vans: check the load index

Vito and Sprinter sizes are often listed with commercial dual load indices, for example 205/65 R16 103/101H on a Vito or 235/65 R16 115/113R on a Sprinter. Two tyres of the same size can carry different loads, so read the full size and load index from the sidewall before you book, and we will match it. Wheel alignment on a Mercedes-Benz

Wide rear sizes such as 275/35 R19 on an E-Class or 285/40 R20 on a GLC are costly to replace, and staggered tyres cannot be rotated to spread wear. If one edge of a tyre is wearing faster than the rest, or the steering pulls or sits off-centre, new tyres will wear the same way until the alignment is corrected. We use Hunter equipment for four-wheel alignment, from £50, and it is worth checking when you fit new tyres.
