Run-flat tyres and the RSC marking
Many MINI models leave the factory on run-flat tyres, which are designed to keep going for a limited distance after a puncture. Not every MINI has them, so check your vehicle handbook or look at the sidewall of your current tyres before choosing replacements.
Run-flat tyres approved for BMW Group cars, which include MINI, can carry an RSC marking (runflat system component). For example, some R56 Cooper S versions were listed on 195/55 R16 87V RSC, and the R60 Countryman Cooper S on 205/55 R17 91V RSC. We supply and fit run-flat tyres, so if your MINI has them, tell us when you book and we will quote for the same type.
Star-marked tyres
MINI is part of the BMW Group, and BMW Group original-equipment tyres carry a star symbol (*) on the sidewall to show they were approved for the car maker. If you want to stay with a star-marked tyre, look for the symbol next to the size on your current tyres and mention it when you book. Other tyres in the correct size and rating can also be fitted.
Same name, different sizes: check your generation
MINI names are reused across generations, and sizes change between them. The Countryman is the clearest example: the 2010 to 2016 R60 starts at 205/60 R16, the 2017 to 2024 F60 at 205/65 R16, and the U25 from 2024 at 205/65 R17, with options up to 245/35 R21.
From 2024 the 3-door Cooper comes in two versions built on different platforms: the petrol F66 (195/55 R16, 215/45 R17 or 215/40 R18) and the electric J01 Cooper E and SE (205/50 R17 or 225/40 R18). If you are not sure which you have, read the size straight from a tyre sidewall when you book.
Wheel alignment on a MINI
A tyre wearing faster on one edge usually points to an alignment problem rather than the tyre itself. If the steering pulls or sits off-centre, or you have hit a kerb or pothole hard, new tyres will wear the same way until the alignment is corrected. We use Hunter equipment for four-wheel alignment, from £50, and it is worth checking when you fit new tyres.
