Toyota Tyres in Park Royal

The right tyre size for a Toyota depends on the model, the generation and the wheels fitted. A 2020-on Yaris can be on anything from 185/65 R15 to 215/40 R18, and the C-HR moved up to 20-inch wheels on the second generation. Toyota tyre sizes by model

Sizes for 16 Toyota models and generations, cross-checked against tyre-maker and retailer fitment listings. One model often lists several sizes, one per wheel option. Fitment listings are a guide: the size on your own tyres, or on the placard in the door frame, is the one to match.

Toyota models at a glance

• Yaris XP130: The 2011 to 2020 Yaris, including the Hybrid, uses 175/65 R15 or 195/50 R16, with 175/70 R14 on base versions.
• Yaris XP210: The Yaris from 2020 uses 185/65 R15, 195/55 R16, 205/45 R17 or 215/40 R18, and the 17 and 18-inch sizes are listed for the 1.5 and Hybrid.
• Yaris Cross: The Yaris Cross from 2021 uses 205/65 R16, 215/55 R17 or 215/50 R18 on both the front-wheel-drive and AWD-i Hybrid.
• Aygo AB40: The 2014 to 2022 Aygo uses 165/65 R14 or 165/60 R15, before and after the 2018 facelift.
• Aygo X: The Aygo X from 2022 uses narrow 175/65 R17 or 175/60 R18 tyres, including the 2025-on 1.5 Hybrid.
• Corolla E210: The Corolla from 2019 uses 195/65 R15, 205/55 R16, 225/45 R17 or 225/40 R18 on both the hatchback and Touring Sports.
• Auris E180: The 2012 to 2018 Auris uses 195/65 R15, 205/55 R16 or 225/45 R17, and the 1.33 petrol and 1.4 D-4D are not listed on 17-inch wheels.
• C-HR AX10: The 2016 to 2023 C-HR uses 215/60 R17, 225/50 R18 or 225/45 R19, and the 1.2 Turbo is listed on 17 and 18-inch sizes only.
• C-HR AX20: The C-HR from 2023 uses 215/60 R17 up to 245/40 R20, and the 2.0 Hybrid, AWD and Plug-in Hybrid are listed on 19 and 20-inch wheels.
• RAV4 XA40: The 2013 to 2018 RAV4 uses 225/65 R17 or 235/55 R18 across 2WD, 4WD, diesel, petrol and the 2016-on Hybrid.
• RAV4 XA50: The RAV4 from 2019 uses 225/65 R17, 225/60 R18 or 235/55 R19, and the Plug-in Hybrid is listed on the 18 and 19-inch sizes only.
• Prius XW50: The 2016 to 2022 Prius uses 195/65 R15 or 215/45 R17.
• Proace: The Proace van from 2016 uses 215/65 R16C, 215/60 R17C or 225/55 R17, and the load index differs between versions.
• Proace City: The Proace City from 2019 uses 205/60 R16, 215/65 R16 or 205/55 R17, with car-type load indices.
• Hilux: The Hilux pickup from 2016 uses 225/70 R17C on the 2.4 D-4D, and 265/65 R17 or 265/60 R18 on 4WD versions.
• bZ4X: The electric bZ4X from 2022 uses 235/60 R18 or 235/50 R20 on both front-wheel drive and AWD.

Yaris, Corolla and C-HR: check the generation and the load index

Toyota's hatchbacks and crossovers changed size between generations, so a tyre that fitted your last Toyota may not fit this one. The 2011 to 2020 Yaris uses 175/70 R14, 175/65 R15 or 195/50 R16, while the Yaris from 2020 uses 185/65 R15 up to 215/40 R18. The first C-HR (2016 to 2023) runs 215/60 R17 to 225/45 R19, and the second (2023 onwards) runs 215/60 R17 to 245/40 R20, with the 2.0 Hybrid, AWD and Plug-in Hybrid listed on 19 and 20-inch wheels only.

The load and speed index can differ even for the same size. Michelin lists the 2020-on Yaris Hybrid's 215/40 R18 at both 89W and 89Y. On the current Corolla, fitment databases disagree about which engines come on 15-inch wheels. Read the full size, including the load and speed index, from a tyre on the car or the door-frame label, and give us all of it when you book.

The Aygo X is a common catch: its 175/65 R17 and 175/60 R18 tyres are narrow for their wheel size, so they are not the same as the 14 and 15-inch tyres on the older Aygo.

Hybrid, plug-in and electric Toyotas

On several models, the hybrid is listed on the same sizes as other versions. The 2011 to 2020 Yaris Hybrid is listed on the same 15 and 16-inch sizes as most other versions, and the Auris Hybrid on 195/65 R15, 205/55 R16 or 225/45 R17. The Yaris Cross is listed on 205/65 R16, 215/55 R17 or 215/50 R18 whether it is front-wheel drive or AWD-i. The Prius (2016 to 2022) uses 195/65 R15 or 215/45 R17.

The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid is the exception: Michelin lists only the 18 and 19-inch sizes for it, not the 17-inch size used on other RAV4 versions from 2019.

The electric bZ4X is listed on 235/60 R18 103H or 235/50 R20 104V for both front-wheel drive and AWD. Match the load index shown on the sidewall when you replace them.

Proace vans and the Hilux need the right load rating

Some Toyota commercials run commercial (C) load-rated tyres. Michelin lists the Proace (2016 onwards) on 215/65 R16 106/104T and 215/60 R17 104/102H on the 1.5 D-4D 120, but 215/65 R16 98R on the 2.0 D-4D 150, so the load index differs between versions of the same van. A C-rated tyre should not be replaced with a car tyre of the same size and a lower load index. Give us the full size, including any C and both load figures, from the door-frame label.

The Proace shares its underpinnings with the Peugeot Expert, Citroen Dispatch and Vauxhall Vivaro. The smaller Proace City (2019 onwards) is listed on car-type load indices, in 205/60 R16, 215/65 R16 or 205/55 R17.

The Hilux pickup (2016 onwards) uses 225/70 R17C on the 2.4 D-4D, listed by Michelin at 108/106S, and 265/65 R17 or 265/60 R18 on 4WD versions.

Balancing and alignment on a Toyota

Toyota UK lists a steering wheel that vibrates at around 40 to 50mph as a sign that one or more wheels may need balancing or replacing. It also says a car that slowly veers to one side may have tracking that is out, unequal tyre pressures, or front tyres whose treads do not match, and it advises fitting tyres that match in tread pattern and make so that grip is balanced.

Wider tyres like the 245/40 R20 on the second-generation C-HR or the 235/50 R20 on the bZ4X cost more to replace, so it pays to make sure the wheels are pointing the right way before new ones go on. If one edge is wearing faster than the rest, or the steering pulls or sits off-centre, have the alignment checked before or when you fit new tyres. Otherwise the new ones will wear the same way.
