Audi Tyres in Park Royal

The right tyre size for an Audi depends on the model, the generation and the wheels fitted. An A3 Sportback from 2020, for example, is listed on sizes from 205/55 R16 to 235/35 R19, and the Q4 e-tron uses different sizes front and rear. Audi tyre sizes by model

Sizes for 11 Audi models and generations, cross-checked against tyre-maker and retailer fitment listings. One model often lists several sizes, one per wheel option. Fitment listings are a guide: the size on your own tyres, or on the placard in the door frame, is the one to match.

Audi models at a glance

• A1: The A1 Sportback from 2018 is listed on 185/65 R15, 195/55 R16, 215/45 R17 and 215/40 R18, with all four sizes listed for every engine from 25 TFSI to 40 TFSI.
• A3 8V: The 2012 to 2020 A3 hatchback and Sportback are listed on sizes from 205/55 R16 to 235/35 R19, with the 19-inch size listed only for some petrol engines.
• A3 8Y: The A3 Sportback and saloon from 2020 are listed on sizes from 205/55 R16 to 235/35 R19, and no 16-inch size is listed for the 45 TFSI e plug-in hybrid.
• A4 B9: The 2015 to 2024 A4 saloon and Avant are listed on sizes from 205/60 R16 to 245/35 R19, and higher-powered quattro versions start at 17-inch.
• A5: The 2016 to 2024 A5 Sportback and coupe are listed on 225/50 R17, 245/40 R18 and 255/35 R19, and 20-inch sizes vary by version.
• A6 C8: The 2018 to 2025 A6 saloon and Avant are listed on sizes from 205/65 R17 to 255/35 R21.
• Q2: The Q2 from 2016 is listed on sizes from 205/60 R16 to 235/40 R19.
• Q3 8U: The 2011 to 2018 Q3 is listed on six sizes, from 215/65 R16 to 255/35 R20.
• Q3 F3: The 2018 to 2025 Q3 and Q3 Sportback are listed on sizes from 215/65 R17 to 255/40 R20, with two different 19-inch sizes.
• Q4 e-tron: The Q4 e-tron from 2021 runs wider tyres on the rear than the front on 19, 20 and 21-inch wheels.
• Q5: The 2017 to 2024 Q5 is listed on sizes from 235/65 R17 to 255/40 R21.

AO, AOE and RO1: Audi markings on the sidewall

Tyres made specifically for Audi carry an AO (Audi Original) mark on the sidewall. Goodyear's marking table also lists AOE as Audi Original Extended, which is a run-flat tyre, and RO1 as an Audi quattro marking.

Look for these letters on your current tyres before you book and tell us what you find. If your car has AOE run-flats, say so, because a run-flat and a standard tyre of the same size are different products.

quattro: keep all four tyres the same

Audi handbooks, as quoted by owners, say a quattro car must have tyres of the same type, make and tread pattern on all four wheels to avoid damage to the driveline. The same passage says tyres with different amounts of wear do not harm the four-wheel-drive system.

In practice, if you need one or two tyres on a quattro, match the brand and pattern already on the car. If that tyre is no longer available, you may need to replace more than the damaged one. Bring the details from your sidewall when you book.

Q4 e-tron: different sizes front and rear

On every listed wheel size, the Q4 e-tron runs a wider tyre on the rear than on the front: 235/55 R19 front with 255/50 R19 rear, 235/50 R20 with 255/45 R20, or 235/45 R21 with 255/40 R21. Because the sizes differ, the tyres cannot be swapped between axles and are bought per axle. Give us both the front and rear sizes when you book.

Wheel alignment on an Audi

Wide, low-profile sizes like 245/35 R19 on the A4, 255/35 R21 on the A6 or 255/40 R21 on the Q5 cost more to replace, so it pays to check the wheels are pointing the right way before new tyres go on. If one edge of a tyre is wearing faster than the rest, or the steering pulls or sits off-centre, have the alignment checked before or when you fit new tyres. Otherwise the new ones will wear the same way. We use Hunter equipment for four-wheel alignment, from £50.
