MG Tyres in Park Royal

The right tyre size for an MG depends on the model, the generation and the wheels. The MG ZS changed from 215/50 R17 to 215/55 R17 at its 2020 facelift, and the ZS EV made the same change in 2021, so two 17-inch cars can need different tyres. MG tyre sizes by model

Sizes for 15 MG models and generations, cross-checked against tyre-maker and retailer fitment listings. One model often lists several sizes, one per wheel option. Fitment listings are a guide: the size on your own tyres, or on the placard in the door frame, is the one to match.

MG models at a glance

• MG3 ZP11: The 2013 to 2024 MG3 uses 185/70 R14 on entry steel wheels and 195/55 R16 on alloys, with 185/65 R15 listed by tyre makers for 15-inch wheels.
• MG3 Hybrid+ ZP22: The MG3 from 2024, including the Hybrid+, uses 185/65 R15 or 195/55 R16.
• ZS ZS11 (2017-2020): The 2017 to 2020 MG ZS petrol uses 215/50 R17 on 17-inch alloys or 195/65 R15 on entry versions.
• ZS ZS11 facelift (2020-2024): The 2020 to 2024 MG ZS petrol uses 215/55 R17 or 205/60 R16.
• ZS EV (2019-2021): The 2019 to 2021 MG ZS EV uses 215/50 R17.

• MG5 EV EP22: The 2020 to 2025 MG5 EV estate uses 205/60 R16, with 215/50 R17 on later cars.
• MG4 EV EH32: The MG4 EV from 2022 uses 205/60 R16, 215/50 R17 or 235/45 R18, the last including the XPower.
• MG4 EV Urban AH4E: The front-wheel-drive MG4 EV Urban from 2026 uses 195/60 R16 or 205/50 R17.
• MGS5 EV ZS3E: The MGS5 EV from 2025 uses 215/60 R17 100H or 225/55 R18 102V.
• Marvel R EP21: The MG Marvel R from 2021 uses 235/45 R19, or 215/55 R18 front and 235/50 R18 rear on a staggered 18-inch set.
• MG6 Mk1: The 2011 to 2016 MG6 hatchback and saloon uses 215/50 R17 on 17-inch alloys.

MG ZS and ZS EV: check which version you have

The first MG ZS (2017 to 2020) uses 215/50 R17 on 17-inch alloys and 195/65 R15 on entry versions. After the 2020 facelift the 17-inch size became 215/55 R17, with 205/60 R16 on 16-inch wheels. The ZS EV follows the same pattern: the 2019 to 2021 car uses 215/50 R17, and the 2021 update uses 215/55 R17 or 205/60 R16.

The current ZS and ZS Hybrid+ (2024 onwards) use 215/55 R17 on the 17-inch 'Valiant' alloys (SE), 215/50 R18 on the 18-inch 'Sabre' alloys (Trophy), and 215/60 R16 on 16-inch wheels. MG's handbook lists two load and speed ratings for the same size: 215/55 R17 94V or 98V, and 215/50 R18 92V or 96V. Match the load index already on your car, not just the size.

MG electric models: MG4, MG5, MGS5 and Marvel R

The MG4 EV (2022 onwards) is rear-wheel drive, with the XPower dual-motor all-wheel drive. It uses 205/60 R16, 215/50 R17 or 235/45 R18, the last including the XPower. The MG4 EV Urban (2026 onwards) is front-wheel drive and uses smaller sizes: 195/60 R16 or 205/50 R17.

The MGS5 EV (2025 onwards) uses 215/60 R17 100H or 225/55 R18 102V. Those are high load indexes, so replacements should match them. The MG5 EV estate uses 205/60 R16, with 215/50 R17 added on later cars.

The Marvel R uses 235/45 R19. On 18-inch wheels, Fitment data lists a staggered set on the Performance version, 215/55 R18 on the front and 235/50 R18 on the rear, but lists the same sizes as all-round options on the lower-powered car. We could not find a UK handbook for the Marvel R, so read the size from each axle before ordering 18-inch tyres.

Wheel alignment on an MG

MG publishes wheel alignment figures (camber, castor and toe, front and rear) in its UK owner's handbooks, and warns that four-wheel alignment outside those figures causes excessive tyre wear and higher fuel or energy use. If one edge of a tyre is wearing faster than the rest, or the steering pulls or sits off-centre, have the alignment checked when you fit new tyres, or the new ones will wear the same way. We use Hunter equipment for four-wheel alignment, from £50.

On the MG4 EV, the handbook says the front camera used by the driver assistance systems, and the radar, must be recalibrated when the alignment settings are changed, and refers owners to an MG Authorised Repairer for this. If your MG4 needs its alignment adjusting, plan for that recalibration as well.

What to check before you buy MG tyres

Read the full size, load index and speed rating from a tyre on the car, or from the handbook. The same size can carry different ratings on an MG: the HS (2018 to 2024) lists 215/60 R17 96H and 235/50 R18 97W, and the current HS lists 215/60 R18 98V and 225/55 R19 99V.

Some sizes seen online are not in MG's UK handbooks. For example, the MG3 (2013 to 2024) handbook lists 185/70 R14 and 195/55 R16, while 185/65 R15 is listed only by tyre makers and fitment sites. If your MG3 has 15-inch wheels, check the sidewall.

The current ZS has a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a tyre repair kit as standard on every UK trim. If you have used the sealant on a puncture, tell us before we take the tyre off. If a TPMS sensor has failed, we can replace it, and if the steering wheel vibrates at speed, we can balance the wheels on their own.
